I suspect a sizable portion of my geospatial network is gearing up to head to the #EsriUC next week. I wish you all safe travels and hope enjoy the conference. It's a unique experience to have tens of thousands of geographers in one place, so soak it in.

At the start of my career, I used Sol Katz's data translation code that I downloaded from FTP. I learned so much about geo data formats and building software on different platforms from that experience. Naming the award for Sol Katz might be my favorite thing I have ever seen done in the geo world.

For me, the majesty of Jim Harrison’s writing is how he deployed a vast vocabulary in a way that seemed conversational. We are so dependent on slang and jargon. His writing is a reminder that there are actual words for most things.
