It's been said that the reason people fall into conspiracy beliefs is because they don't understand how anything works, so the conspiracy explains it in easy to understand bits that simultaneously lend the believer self worth. 'I didn't understand, but now I do. I'm not stupid, I'm clever.'

Without reading the article, I'd say conspiracy theorists want to invent explanations as to why hidden cabals want to ban their McMansions, golf courses, Range Rovers, foie gras dinners, & Club Med holidays.

I wonder this a lot too. like why people who claim they care about preventing child abuse never talk about fighting the Catholic church or any of the well documented abuse in youth sports. I wish he'd given you a more coherent answer but am not surprised he wasnt capable of that.
