We should also realize that the Federal goverment doens't need "tax payer dollars" when it can create whatever it wants with Congressional budget approval. YOUR dollars are FEDERAL dollars that were created by Congress. Uncle Sam can afford anything as long as we have the resources.

It is very odd, for several years my SS hits the cap in Sept/October or so, then the last few months I get a small raise, that goes away in January. 2nd year this happened I changed jobs, and they had a problem with my direct deposit so my boss was looking at my paycheck and freaked out about it.

Another idea: Keep the cap on SS contributions. Also: Cap the income. No one needs to make more than ... lets be generous ... 200.000 a year.

It was odd to start to earn enough to get the rich person's bonus in the last month of paychecks when the SS contribution maxed out--I'd be happy to scrap the cap

I bet most people do not know there is a cap. Biggest damn scam there is. There is no trust fund. SS taxes are treated as general revenue.

If rich people payed their taxes we could solve some of the hardest problems we face.

Yes!!!! The “crisis” in social security is an artifact, pure and simple, of bad tax policy.

Why do we even have a cap in the first place? Unless it is, of course, to protect the rich. :-/

Even raising the cap a modest amount would fill the SS coffers. To others’ points, it’s just a year-end bonus for those of us who are doing just fine.

Wouldn't that also mean that richer people would be able to draw more when they retire? My SS retirement value is based on my earnings.

What's amazing is that if we remove the cap, we'd be able to reduce the % for all hardworking people, $50K- and $20B-earners alike. It also should apply to income from all sources.

And while we are fixing that, let's change the asset limit that keeps people on disability poor!
