It's just an example of what comics are generally about. They're power fantasies—imagine someone with lots of power who uses it for good or a billionaire who pays taxes & uses his wealth responsibly. Because in the real world billionaires are bad and unchecked "benevolent" power would be terrifying.

Nobody with the kind of unopposable power Superman has has ever used it selflessly either. But that fantasy of someone using power/wealth selflessly is the whole point, the premise of the comics. We read them *because* it doesn't happen in real life.

She imagines showing Google a picture of your lawn to get a lawn mower recommendation, but doesn't think to ask how Google's AI would know the answer, where it would get that information from. Google doesn't understand anymore what a search engine was and why it used to work.

Debate is a college sport in which the best teams are expected to win regardless of which side of the debate they are arguing—so obviously ridiculous as a method for getting at the truth about an issue. Might as well play a game of basketball to decide whether or not Israel is committing genocide.

Wow, thanks. I thought I was an astronomy fan, but hadn't gotten that. I'd been confused reading about JWST ancient galaxies thinking individual stars must all be more short-lived than their galaxies.

On the one hand you have people who are definitely legally forbidden from marrying who they love. On the other you have people who are afraid they might get criticized or shamed for what they say. Surely the first harm is outweighed by the risk of the second.

I totally agree with your point. Also don't underestimate the extent to which we admire the things you say are admirable BECAUSE Jesus taught our culture to side with underdogs and be suspicious of scapegoating. The stuff you say wouldn't be scandalous actually also was.

It's so frustrating that there's lots of agreement about whether visuals are good or bad, whether acting is good or bad, but so much less about whether writing is good or bad. Movies or games will be roundly mocked for visuals or acting that are as bad as writing routinely is.
