Herriman openly admitted Krazy Kat was a 'sprite', which I assume is the closest thing to a two-spirited person. I always liked the idea that cartoon characters were gender-ambiguous and have adopted that position in my own cartoons.

I've said this before: Sternecky not only nailed Kelly's style almost perfectly, at times he actually took it to a level of refinement above the original comic. The writing might not have been as witty and subversive though, as it's really hard to approach the level of poetry Kelly had.

This show really is a priceless treasure, though Christine McConnell casually creating works of art in the show as simple crafts can be soul-crushing. I look forward to Halloween by playing this show and Hilarious House of Frightenstein on the weeks leading up to the holiday. Really good stuff.

I assumed they were brothers with a reasonable age gap. Bert was the nerdy teen and Ernie was in the mischievous upper single digits. In fact, I think it served somewhat as a model for my own sibling relationships in my family as I grew up.

I made an account there basically to hammer in a door-jam to prevent this sort of ID theft, but doubt I'll actually use it. Used to have this sort of thing happen to domain names for companies in the early internet, but it's since trickled down to anyone with a following.

The rise and fall of funny animals in the US from popular in the 30s-50s to marginalized in the 60s onwards needs serious study. My theory is censorship sucked all the life out of the genre, then proto-furries reinvented funny animals as a counter-culture in the 70s: A polarized culture war since.
