yeah there was a whole wave of people who got into birding the first summer of the pandemic because it was a perfectly safe hobby to do (outdoors!) that still had a social component

I heard about birding more during the pandemic but didn't realize that people actually got into it and then stayed with it. Now that I've started to pay attention I can't imagine ever not paying attention again. It's an awareness.
