I knew to keep it as heavy as possible, weighted at the front, and with a relatively flat design to prevent drag. Dad helped me solder fishing weights to the front undercarriage. WD40 on the axles was the coup de grace.

There was a rumor that one of the dads, who was an engineer, not only built his own version of the track but some sort of wind tunnel to test for drag.
