Yeah it would been like Frasier before Frasier, just in a different key.

Hesseman is the hippie prodigal son who moves home when their mom dies. Mull is the uptight son who cared for mom. The twist is mom had been caring for Hesseman’s estranged teen daughter. Over time, Mull becomes more like Hesseman and vice versa. Fred Willard recurs as wacky neighbor Patch.

It’s a shame we did not get the Martín Mull-Howard Hesseman-as-brothers early 90s sitcom that we deserved.

I saw it in the 80s and seem to remember (a) Travolta sleepwalking through it and (b) it not being very good overall.

I watched about 5 minutes and am now 99% sure I never watched it (aside from clips and maybe a few minutes while flipping the channel). I was a little too old when it came out. But I am now 99% sure I saw the 1980 Return to Oz cartoon TV special with the Jack o' Lantern character.

I read Tinderbox off and on for about a year. It was good stuff. The constant churn of executives was a little hard to follow, but the fun part was the real time regime change going on between the time I started and finished.

Yes! I also remember their particular hate for St. Elmo’s Fire but just not the words. The worst of the year show was usually the best show of the year.

The pod was a fun listen, but the movie itself looks like a dark bummer. Hiding Out was bad but in a fun way.

Yeah, but the two hours. I don’t want Siskel’s words haunting me on my deathbed.

I have no memory of the actual movie, but I vividly remember the scathing (and now poignant) Siskel & Ebert review: Gene says if Roger comes to his funeral, he wants Roger to know his last thoughts would have been he wished his life had two more hours of happiness by not watching Return to Oz.

These were great except the one time we let a couple younger siblings stay, the parents left, but they did not know how to swim, so I had two squirmy five year olds clinging to my back for two hours.

The song of the summer is Eddie Vedder’s “Save It For Later” cover. Everyone over 40 will be blasting this from their 1992 Honda Prelude while cruising the beach parking lot.

As a little kid, my sister loved buttermilk. When we got a treat at the grocery store, I'd get chocolate milk, and she'd get buttermilk. Then one day she was like "nope."

The Royals might not be good or bad, but this is the most interesting they have been since Ned Yost fell out of a tree and made a cell phone commercial about it.

In junior high, we got “no stain” carpet that pretty much lived up to its name, but it would not repel dirt so it would quickly change from light gray to dark gray until the next steam cleaning.

We moved into a house built in 1974, and it had a bathroom with pink shag carpeting and wallpaper with pink roses and shiny flecks of silver (kind of like foil wrapping paper). We ripped out the rug pretty quickly, but mom thought the wallpaper was classy and kept it until the full redo years later.

House of Dragon has become the equivalent of a solid "B-" Game of Thrones episode, but (1) at some point you need some fun characters and (2) avoid self-inflicted wounds where a lack of cohesion in visual storytelling (like the latest episode) leaves the viewer saying "WTF?" instead of "WTF!"

I knew to keep it as heavy as possible, weighted at the front, and with a relatively flat design to prevent drag. Dad helped me solder fishing weights to the front undercarriage. WD40 on the axles was the coup de grace.

I think they started paying more attention to continuity once reruns became a big business by the early 1980s and viewers could start to notice things.

If they were going to go through all that trouble to get a permit to film at the airport, they were going to get their money's worth.

There was probably some assistant associate producer tasked with making sure the repeat actor wore a different colored tie, parted his hair differently, and spoke with a Chicago instead of a New York accent so no one would not catch on.

Other favorites: Characters walk into restaurant, converse with maitre d', get seated, and hear specials before talking. Characters sit down at bar, order drinks, watch the bartender make the drinks, and then start talking. A character walks through entire airport before meeting other character.

The other great time fillers are henchmen. So much henchmen. Henchmen walk up stairs. Henchman walk down stairs. Henchmen take suit jacket off. Henchmen put suit jacket on. Henchmen order coffee. Henchmen drink coffee. Henchmen talk on phone, walk over to other henchmen, repeat phone conversation.

There is so much parking — like 12-15 seconds of the car driving up to a spot, slowly pulling in, and the driver and passengers getting out and walking into a building while musical flourishes play.

It’s a great easy watch. My minor quibble with the third season was they knew some players, including key ones from past seasons, would not be coming back, so they focused less on the players and their lives.

Accurate. He’s likable even though his character is not. He can deliver a quip or a fast-talking mini-monologue, but if the words are not funny, there’s not much else he can do.

I get the sense the original Hiding Out screenplay was a straightforward mob drama. But after Cruise and Penn passed, the producers got Cryer and gave a script doctor a weekend — and a large baggie of cocaine — to try to turn it into a teen comedy. They failed.
