We moved into a house built in 1974, and it had a bathroom with pink shag carpeting and wallpaper with pink roses and shiny flecks of silver (kind of like foil wrapping paper). We ripped out the rug pretty quickly, but mom thought the wallpaper was classy and kept it until the full redo years later.

My folks built a house in 1988 & had carpet almost everywhere, including the bathrooms. In 5 years, there were many rugs to cover up stains from kids & dogs, including an infamous Spaghetti-Os stain that triggered a house-wide Chef Boyardee ban. They gave up & replaced it all with hardwood or tile.
