I think that, in the beginning, they kept the study rustic because the Jeffrey Jones dad wanted to keep it the same, but everything else was changed. But then they change it back in the end.

yup that is a plot point! The study was kept rustic, Delia and Otho weirded it all up EXCEPT the study and the attic, the latter only because they could not get in. Charles demanded the study to be kept rustic, but he could not "switch off" his "city slicker" persona "goooooooooood parking"
