Is one of your ( and @akivamcohen.bsky.social’s) main points that if it is confirmed to be really really important (i.e. a revelation of an actual crime, not just something the leaker thinks is bad) then that’s a legal defense, or are you actually saying something more nearly the opposite?

There are exceptions to doctor/patient confidentiality explicitly written into the law having to do with crimes - gunshot wound reporting, suspected child abuse, threat to 3rd party ("duty to warn"), etc. But there are legal ways to report these, and going to a journalist isn't on the list.

It might be a defense to conviction or a factor for leniency. But it can’t be a defense against *prosecution* or you’re basically creating QI for ideologues.
