So, I bought a lovely beach dress for myself from The Oblong Box Shop - off shoulder, glow-in-the-dark mermaid skeleton printed on it. (See image #2)
Today, I found the *perfect* necklace to wear with it (from Belle Juri: bellejuri.com). (See image #1, for $319.) Why am I not a gazillionaire? WHY.

I really want to go dancing. Someplace cool, with interesting people and nice drinks. The only place like that near here is on the other side of one town over, and the parking is shit and anyway, they don't open til 10 PM, FFS, and I am fat and old. :exaggerated sigh:

Neighborhood fireworks were pretty tame last night. How tame was it? My cats did not *once* lift their heads from their evening naps. We declined to attend the beach fireworks, because that's a lot of people, and it's hot. (Yes, I am a party pooper, thanks for noticing.)

Reading a great horror novel from January (which totally escaped my notice - thanks so much, @emilyhughes.bsky.social, for mentioning it on Jumpscares!) - it's called "Eye of a Little God" by A. J. Steiger, & it is just lovely. Quiet, super-unsettling, magic, fate, body horror, despair. #SpookyBooks

Got hold of "101 Horror Books to Read Before You're Murdered" - OMG, there are a *number* of the recommended titles that I haven't read...and even some I've NEVER HEARD OF. :dance of joy: I'd better get to reading, cause I went hog-wild & pig-crazy requesting titles at work.

The sky is steel this morning, softening all the light so that it appears dusk, thunder rolling intermittently across the distant whoosh of cars. Soon the rain will drop & cocoon us all in gentle silence. It's day for hot drinks and reading on the couch, but library work is never done, alas.

Yeah. In the beginning he was abrasive but not hateful, and the medical mysteries were really interesting (some of which I recognized from books I had read). At the end, he was awful & the focus was on him instead of the patients. No, thanks.

FYI - they will no longer take your short-and-sweet sentence as the reason. When I entered the 6-digit number, I got an error saying "Response is too short", and then I had to wait for yet another secret number to do it again. My longer reply had rather more all cap phrases.

I use Instagram only for window shopping - yes, show me the punk/goth cute dresses I'd have rocked at 19! Fat 60 year old me will not be buying them, but I can imagine! (I will admit, I have found a couple of great small businesses this way, but mostly it's just eye candy.)

Huh. Did not know that. (I knew they gave some friends headaches, just didn't know *why*.) I just hate artificial sweeteners because they taste bitter, not sweet at all (I was astonished to learn that they really do taste sweet to some people.)

I watched the original Godzilla on TV as a kid in the '70s & thought it was a fun monster movie. Then I watched it as a 30 year old & realized that film was made less than a decade after the war & it was really a horror movie/national cartharsis.
