In 1970, the Club of Rome predicted a crash early in this century. So far, their predictions have tracked pretty well. Maybe the worldwide drop in living standards is the first hint that the crash is coming.
Is #Trump and #MAGA the best policy mix to carry us through the crash?

Across the Western world, we are seeing a #costOfLivingCrisis I don't think it is a coincidence that these are all countries that embraced #neoliberalism a few decades ago.
Or maybe these are the first hints of the economic crash that the #clubOfRome predicted.

Seems odd to me that after 200+ years #SCOTUS has suddenly decided that the constitution gives #POTUS the right to break laws, but it doesn't guarantee women rights over what they do with their bodies.

The decision by #SCOTUS today is a significant expansion on the prerogative of #POTUS.
In turn it significantly raises the stakes in a #presidentialelection.
Choosing the wrong person could have serious and far reaching consequences.

In the #presidentialdebate we saw a hesitant and faltering #Biden speak (mostly) sense, and a confident #Trump speak (mostly) lies and distortion.
Trump was declared the victor by the majority of viewers.
So we are now in a society where the plating of the food is more important than the nutrition.

People are writing #Biden off. I am not so sure it is over. #Trump can now smell blood in the water and he may get excited and lower his guard. A strong performance in the second debate could catch Trump and the #Republicans by surprise.
And there is the "October surprise."

Regarding #JulianAssange. The USA now has a precedent on the books for charging #journalists with espionage when they publish critical information on military or government actions. This could be used by a more authoritarian government in the future to control #pressFreedom?

The fossil fuel industry has long delayed the energy transition by throwing red herrings into the debate at strategic times. Lets get to net zero first, using the technology we have, and we can discuss nuclear then in the context of expansion without the current urgency.

1 We are totally united under the leadership of "Dutto".
2 Every problem we have in Australia will be solved by nuclear reactors.

I am sceptical of both.

Listening to Mehdi Hasan and Naomi Klein talk about #Gaza normalising that horror in prep for the impact of climate chaos in the South. Exchanging thoughts on Gaza with people in the US, I found their response was 'oh well'.

Love how the all the techies just say "use Linux". Most people just get a computer to use, and they should be able to use it safely and securely and privately without having to fiddle about changing the operating system. Big tech sucks sometimes.

Yes right, so this is basically all about no separation of powers in the USA as well as Israel. It is fine for leaders to have clear Christian values, in fact I don't think there is enough of that. The problem occurs when politicians who follow a fundamentalist cult govern with those rules.

It is good that #Biden is holding back on weapons to #Israel. It would be even better if it was because he knows it is morally right, but I strongly suspect it is for local US policy reasons.

Yet more evidence that businesses don't value our privacy. "Third party accessed our data" is not an excuse. Incompetent security practices are most likely the cause. An old forgotten account, a weak password... these are usually the reason.

Reports from #Gaza that the #IDF are arming surveillance drones. They hover outside buildings and play a recording of distressed children. When people run out to help, the drones open fire.
