I don't think there is any getting around it: Israel looked at its options and chose to double down on the GOP rather than moderate policies that would, inevitably, estrange its Democratic support.

I've been teaching about ME history and politics for nearly twenty years; the generational change is absolutely palpable. And it was, in large part, because Israel decided it could afford to stop pretending. This ugly war is, I suspect, the nail in the coffin.
