1. Integrated intelligence structures
2. Obsession with Iran, not only in DC, but among most other regional partners.

I've been teaching about ME history and politics for nearly twenty years; the generational change is absolutely palpable. And it was, in large part, because Israel decided it could afford to stop pretending. This ugly war is, I suspect, the nail in the coffin.

I have long since given up assuming that leaders, faced with they abyss, will walk back because the costs are too high.
Perfectly possible that Hezbollah and Israel will waltz themselves right over the edge.
