The @NYCComptroller audited the NYPD's ShotSpotter contract and found some problems. The system misses confirmed gunshots (156 in one year in just one borough) and 87 percent of the time it sends cops chasing things that don't seem to be be gunshots:

San Diego had “shot spotter” cost was insane, the local home slice(s) took a hammer to each and every one of them. Adios shot spotter.
