Aspects of placental functioning are influenced by paternal DNA, and small amounts of maternal DNA can get through the placental barrier, but the placenta itself is formed from embryogenetic cells (ie baby’s DNA) that split off very early on from the cells that form the blastocyst

Yeah I'm talking about imprinting, where parts of either the maternally or paternally inherited genome (in certain tissues, including the placenta) are switched off.
