I like the subtle implication in the response that actually the illegitimate behavior was the agencies enforcing unclear laws, and they should never have been enforcing anything basically.

"if you're going to embezzle money, at least make sure to spend the money on yourself" is not covered heavily enough in professional responsibility classes.

Frente!'s cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle" was pretty amazing. And A3's cover of "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" is actually surprisingly straightforward considering the genre shift, but still great.

Yeah, that's why you've got to use the popcorn bowl - it's big enough that it will just slosh up the sides but not actually escape. But - spoiler - you really hope that no one is actually going to barf in the popcorn bowl. You really just give it to them so you can feel like you did SOMETHING.

And a Supreme Court that was specially built over the course of decades to (among other things) let states disenfranchise voters they don't like. And the fact that states are still trying things that even THIS court won't condone says a lot.

Yeah, I use my birthday as my "time to throw out all the socks" reminder. Just the daily drivers, obviously, and I need to make sure to buy enough pairs that they won't wear out in a year.

It's funny how Trump's mental decline began exactly when he shifted from scripted, edited television to live appearances.

I really try to be charitable when other people like something I find unappealing, but also the only way I know a picture is by Jim Lee and not an honorable mention in a high school art show is if someone puts his name above it.

And after about a year, my gums were in great shape, and even though I made 0 changes to my personal tooth care routine, I started getting compliments instead of lectures from the hygienist. Turns out it had nothing to do with my habits at all.

I definitely have never had it that bad, but I've had a lot of lectures. Then I switched to a new dentist, and the dentist was like "wow, you have a lot of buildup on your lower teeth, your saliva must have a really high mineral content. Let's do cleanings once every 3 months"...

I told my kid's dentist that he responds better to positive motivation than negative, they put a note in his file, and I have not heard a single complaint about going to the dentist since.

It's weird how people manage to believe BOTH that they won't being the one holding the screwdriver AND that they won't let the screwdriver slip.

I have to admit, it wasn't until the past few years that I came to believe that news organizations actively, intentionally work to make elections as close as possible. It's just normally more subtle because most races used to have two nominally qualified candidates.

The only nonprofit board I've served on, the assumption was that everything would be public. (We had an hour-long discussion on what to do when someone requested to submit something to the board confidentially.) It was a huge surprise to learn that there are non-profits where that's not the case.

In the skeet you're replying to, I think you've misunderstood this bit: "bristle or gasp at the use of real words in real life." This demonstrates that they do understand the belief that something happens on platforms, but they believe those platforms cannot punish in person behavior.

Yeah, I'd never heard of it either, but it makes so much sense that now I'm like, wow, what a gift he gave to all the other actors by insisting on that, so everyone could go into filming the first scenes totally confident in their characters.

I recently learned that that's how Donald Sutherland filmed his movies - shooting started with the middle scenes, so he could figure out the character, and if he made bad decisions in the middle scenes, the first impressions would carry people past that.

There are SO many drawings of dinosaurs that DEFINITELY had feathers with absolutely zero feathers that I think to balance it out we should just spend a few years drawing every single dinosaur with WAY TOO MANY FEATHERS, as a treat.

I was very fortunate in that I got shin splints from overtraining as a teenager, so that was a brutally tangible demonstration of how 4 weeks of great progress plus 6 weeks of couch doesn't net out anywhere close to 10 weeks of good progress.

Like, "how do you build a two-party system that does a good job of handling it when one of the parties wants to permanently destroy the two-party system and will spend 50 years slowly working toward that goal" is a terrible question to have to answer, especially at the END of those 50 years.

Yeah, I think the imbalance is just built in to the ideologies. "We should accumulate power and use it to enrich ourselves" will generally speaking win out over "we should maintain a system where no one can get all the power" once the former gets control of the system...

For a movie I've only seen once, I'm amazed at how much some of the visuals have stuck with me. It's obviously not the best movie directed by Fincher, but in terms of the technical work of direction, it's spectacular.
