This is actually an advantage of parliamentary govt. Since there are more than 2 parties, voters don't have the false dichotomy that the US gets. There are a range of parties fighting together, each with their own constituents, which allows for a broader consensus.

If they found for immunity, Biden would have a chance to do the funniest thing in debate history and just have SEAL team 6 stand behind him on the debate stage in full kit.

The analogy I heard on a podcast that I think summed it up perfectly was that this theory of standing would let any doctor with a moral objection to Viagra make that no longer distributable.

In the end, humanity is designed to mirror and define ourselves by stories, as that is how the Skalds taught us for thousands of years. How you perceive the story says more about you than the story itself

That being said, a lot of the later Star Wars content tried to introduce that nuance (the Sith being more about feelings, etc.) but it's hard to overcome a multi-decade stating point

Star Trek had the advantage over it's long serialization of always being more about encountering new cultures/situations that introduced shades-of-grey. Star Wars started as a movie which drives a more dialectic approach due to brevity. There's a lot more to it, but structure always has its say.

"Vote with their feet" and move to states that more favored their preferences, thus granting that state more power in Congress. Unfortunately, some of the knock-on effects of capitalism as well as bad- faith political actors have limited that as a recourse.

That is not to say it is right or wrong. The same States' power that preserves a woman's right to choose or limits federal overreach also limits voters in another state from choosing their Federal representative or limits science The end all be all was supposed to be the ability of people to.. 2/x

The original design of the US was independent States that effectively only appealed to a higher authority for mutual defense. Even the Constitution did not really limit the States' authority, hence the 'rights' being a series of Amendments. So, historically, it is Federalist power that is 1/x

I love the odds defiance here. To take a borderline B-rate sequel and: 1. Have someone willingly convert it to a novel and, 2. Have a publisher greenlight it and, 3. Have an original buyer for a book-of-a-movie. It is such an amazing chain of events.

Thief of Time is where I think Pratchett hit his stride as an author. The plot is relatively tight, the characters are bangers as always, and it has good subplots. I also love the Death/Susan sub-books for their more human approach.

Theoretically Congress could overrule them, but then all they have to do is rule that overrule unconstitutional for *insert BS test*. Long story long, Congress gave up control when they didn't immediately push back on Marbury v. Madison. The one trick left is SCOTUS has no way to enforce it's 1/x

That is the response of a true Olympian. In essence, "Yeah, I lost to our future. I honor them and am humbled to be a part of their journey. I would do it again." It's not about his pride, but about being there to see another story begin.

@rincewind.run has a great chart of where to start for each sub-series. For me, it will always be Reaper Man. For you friend, do you crave Justice? Guards! Guards! (Also best general rec) Do you want to see the beauty in Chaos? Reaper Man. Anarchist? Small Gods. Shakespeare nut? Lords and Ladies.
