It was bound to happen wasn’t it? Once it was deemed to be fine and the door opened with Tory MPs last session…

Spending the year dead for tax reasons…. (mainly people pretending they can cut them without cutting services)

True. Also because the party is very much not democratic but a Farage managed legal entity he wants to keep Tice sweet after replacing him as leader then throwing him under the bus whenever problems cropped up in the campaign.

And of course now Ben Habib is saying he has long held concerns about control of the party its decision making processes. Just like the Tories it’s funny how much they see wrong in their own parties when it’s them losing out?

This is what confused me about the Tory “people don’t like Starmer” line. So, you’re being thrashed by someone people don’t like? In what way is that good? What if he actually delivers?

Next they may say something bold like ensuring people can have stable and affordable housing will help their health and the economy too! People piling most of their wages into an entirely unproductive part of the economy may not be the best use of capital….

It is. I doubt we’re in for a full reversal of access journalism and interviews with 30 seconds to answer a quick-fire barrage of questions. But if there were ever a time for something a bit more meaningful particularly from our broadcast media it is now. Maybe some podcasts will flourish?

Someone in charge who people seem to dislike, think is boring and love to criticise while they are quietly and effectively getting on with the job and bringing long sought after results. Southgate/Starmer

This is the time when we find out which political journalists are just that and which are gossip columnists. Maybe a bit unfair as there are a lot of very good journalists out there. But I do think some may find the change difficult to adjust to.

It generally just means ‘do what I think is right’ doesn’t it? The alternative is their aim is the more noble one of not being an extremist, not giving in to populism. Which can come from the left or right. But I think that’s a different argument from the ‘policies that people like me like’ one.

Nice! She mentions developing the business case, is there any more detail on what this involves? Presumably there needs to be more work and investment from public/private organisations to make it all happen? I’m interested in how mayors can use their positions to bring these together.

The ICO has issued an Enforcement Notice to the MetPolice due to its persistent failure to meet legal FOI deadlines. The ICO has now taken action against 10 of the 44 police forces in E&W&NI, 23% of them, due to non-compliance with FOI. For a sector meant to uphold the law, this record is appalling.

The gall of Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge to say that Starmer not setting a date for defence spending reaching 2.5% of GDP will be "damaging for the armed forces". It was the Tories that damaged our armed forces when they slashed defence spending during austerity.

When politicians don’t have answers to the problems which unite us they focus on the things which divide us. And it never ends well does it? At least she’s not in power anymore and looks to have lost her leadership chance for now. Still concerning though.

True. But they didn’t increase their seats, the opposition just fragmented didn’t it? And they’re not calling for a border poll nor do I think they will or can for now. It’s still significant of course. But feels different from the SNP’s constant indy ref stance.

Perhaps “Empty Tory Promises” can be the line? That covers much of the past 14 years as well as specific pre election promises. I’m not sure that it alone opens the door to tax rises or “undoing the damage” from the pre election ones. But it certainly helps pin blame on the Tories.
