so I'd expect past morphological disparity to potentially be even greater than that measured based on described and named fossils), but of course that would remain to be tested [2/2]

Good question. My gut feeling is no (and in fact there is a well known bias against description of strange fossils in plants that cannot be readily assigned to extant taxa, ... [1/2]
