Charles Vess rules so hard. Was thinking about what piece of art really made an impact on me as a kid to push me into my art style and though the Final Fantasy 3 booklet, or my few anime magazines are close, its got to be this Vess piece that was an insert of my first Heroes Con guide book.

Of course like every influence, it adapts and molds into something more personal but those tree roots in this, i might still not do as good as Vess but in my head, this is still what i see before the pen hits the paper.
