After I got my autism diagnosis, I saw a talk by a therapist encouraging us to find those acts of radical self-love, things where you say "fuck it" to the stories about how it makes you different and where you give yourself the love you need to make your life simply livable. She gave great examples.

One patient had trauma from having left her apartment with the curling iron still on. It burned down half her apartment. In the wake of it, anxiety that she'd left it on again was ruining her life. She couldn't be out with friends. She couldn't focus at work. Even if she checked it before she left.

I think you're on to something -- we all have spent so many years being told the way our brains work is Wrong and Shameful that it feels awkward to accommodate them.
