Goldolt, *there’s* an ethical dilemma for you - if granting him a pardon meant getting him off the court permanently, would it be worth it?

Having said that, Succession had no shortage of characters who’d be willing to jump to the “it was antifa!” conclusion with little to no prompting.

My recollection is that the actual identity of the perpetrators is never firmly established - plot-wise, the fire is more important as a pretext to allow fudging of the electoral votes by the network.

Do Substack and Patreon allow recipients to turn away backers? If so, (and you enjoy and appreciate their work, as you’ve said elsewhere in this thread), I’d leave well enough alone.

So, what are the odds that the “TARDIS groaning” sound effect was a remix of clips from “The Edge of Destruction” and/or “Planet of Giants”?

You’re assuming the conventional interpretation of “shoplifting” though. Might be this dude running amok:

Keeping track of what plot threads DW is setting up for future seasons. So far: 1. Something involving shoplifting in Catford. 2. An exploration of Mel’s family and backstory. (Notably absent from the classic series, but mentioned at least twice since her return.)

I wouldn’t put it completely past RTD to do something like this, particularly given that Gatwa and Gibson’s “Tales of the TARDIS” installment is set to premiere in 6 days, and they haven’t yet announced what story it’ll be framing

I’m still convinced that if the Rani’s going to be involved it’ll be revealed that she’s been (once again) posing as Mel. I’ll also predict that a.) she won’t be the big bad, b.) it might be a reveal for a future season.

You’ve put your finger on the central problem in (almost) all fictional universes: the people in them couldn’t have watched them and absorbed the lessons therein.

I’m wondering if these cavepeople - be they whatever combination of prehistoric, alien, and post apocalyptic - weren’t suffering from some developmental problems, like lead poisoning or something similar. What are the symptoms of breathing too much CO2 for extended periods, again?

That was my assumption. Wouldn’t surprise me if these guys were neighbors of the folks in The Macra Terror, for example. Still wondering what “The Great Abrogation” might have been. Oklahoma-style land grab, maybe?

Where does that money actually go, then? I assume that the defendant would be motivated to maintain that they had nothing to do with it at all, no sir, your honor, and therefore have no claim on it.

I'll add just this: The feeling that the fascist leader is inevitable is a phantasm that they all prop up, in order to cow their opposition. You can't fight "inevitable." We don't have to prop up the myth. Trump isn't inevitable. He lost in 2020. He loses every time he stands trial.

I don’t mind not getting an explanation, or even the suggestion that there isn’t a Watsonian one to be had… but 73 Yards gave me the impression that the author hadn’t bothered to think of one that fit all the events of their own story, and *that* bugs me.
