Just finished reading Marcovaldo this morning and am in the midst of reading Italian Folktales with my kiddo and love the idea of "lightness" as a descriptor of characters like Marcovaldo and of the joyfulness of Calvino's writing style

Nice! I have not read Marcovaldo yet -- Italian Folktales is what set me off on this Calvino kick, and I went from there into Invisible Cities, Six Memos and now I'm into The Written World and the Unwritten World. It is such a perfect descriptor!
