IMO the problem is 'our' money over everything culture. My guess is that most media owners' main source of income is pay-offs. Engagements and subscriptions are just a front for the appearance of legitimacy.

The publisher is mad at Biden because he has not given them an exclusive interview, so he's doing this. He has said as much I believe. It's revenge.
