Was supposed to see them when they & RATM were touring together but MCA got in a bike accident & Rage broke up while he was recovering, canceling the tour. I had to wait until 2009 and finally got to see them live at Bonnaroo and they fucking crushed it. Show was electric.

Agreed there; they also have to pivot the newer EV manufactures from trying to treat it like Silicon Valley & making it all proprietary or specialist techs only. Mass adoption requires ease of access, proven reliability & repair costs in line with what people come to expect.

This will be the key for their long term viability imo. Modular logic as well as interoperability, cheaper replacements & regular mechanics being able to be certified to fix it. You can find vast amounts of parts at junkyards, EBay, online retailers ect that you can buy & have a mechanic install.

lol brakes don’t cost 15k unless it’s a Maserati or Ferrari; it’s not even close to comparable. Im literally talking about used cars that was the entire point when I replied. New cars who cares, ICE or EV they are all under warranty for catastrophic failure of its big parts.

I think the low cost entry point is certainly attractive. Leafs are really going to be the first test group of 15 year + EVs will be interesting to see how they perform. At least w Nissan it’s a manufacturer who has legit quality control in place. I’d say ppl on car forums aren’t the avg car owner.

Owned cars in the south, in the NE, in the west & in Europe. Owned American, Korean, Japanese & European models. Cheap & expensive. Brand new to 25 year old ones. Never had fuel system failures & the repairs I did need need on ones that required them never were a 15k price tag, never close to 5k.

Again do you not understand it does: when your car could hold a charge and go 300 miles and 10 years later it can only go 260 miles. A 10 year old Civic whose range with a full tank was 400 miles isn’t suddenly only able to go 340, you get that right? Or are you being obtuse on purpose?!

Smart! Yes, I think eventually they’ll figure out ways to extend the pack life & prevent the degenerative storage issues. My point was more on a thread talking about costs ppl who aren’t as familiar with EVs may be in for an unexpected costly surprise when we start to see 15 yr old EV used market.

lol you are way to defensive for someone just replying w facts. Yes, engines fail. Fuel pumps or even entire engines don’t cost 15k for most basic ICE cars. Also you don’t get 20-30% MPG in the original working engine 10 years in. You can live EVs (I think they are cool too) without being irrational

Sure, Tesla is by far the worst of quality/product for EVs but the long term viability of batteries non-Tesla’s are still a concern when we start seeing the first 15-20 year old EVs on the road. They will have to show they don’t bury working class people buying used ones with crippling costs.

No the article shows Teslas average about 5-7% degradation every 50k miles so 150,000 is 85% capacity (not awful but not insignificant). Avg car age on the road in the U.S. is 12 1/2yrs. You can pretend that’s irrelevant for EVs but there is legit concern for their longterm used market like ICE cars

Except it’s not wrong. It’s in the companies warranty’s & documentation. Car & driver (paid for by the auto industry) pegs it at 8 to 12 years. Even giving it 12 years, most people buying a 10 year old civic or corolla aren’t anticipating having to pay for a new engine in 2 years or get 30% less MPG

Fair but ppl who own EVs haven’t owned them long enough to experience the GIANT inevitable expense coming; replacing the battery pack. Most don’t know all major EV manufacturers only estimate the pack will last 6-8 years then start to see severe degradation. A new pack can be 15-20k+.
