I have a pretty solid group of politically aware people on Facebook and once I asked them (to make this point)if anybody knew how you ran for State Senate. Nobody.

A frustrating thing is that people have almost no knowledge of how their local governments function (town, city, state), even though those are the places where policy most often directly impacts their lives. A lot of that is due to the death of local newspapers.
