Classic CS example is recursive formulation of the Fibonacci sequence, Fn = Fn-1 + Fn-2, with F0 = F1 = 1. If you compute eg F22 naively, you will compute subproblems (eg F4) many times. Cache the answer to each subproblem and look it up instead, algorithm is linear in time rather than exponential.

If you are solving a problem that involves having to solve the same subproblems more than once, cache the answer to each subproblem the first time you solve it. Then, rather than computing the answer to the sub problem again, just look up the answer in the cache.
