I once had a friend tell me a great Batman movie would have to be rated R because it would have to be "dark". Being "dark" doesn't earn an R rating. Only if that "darkness" comes from blood and guts, drug use, profuse swearing, and/or full-on fucking. Which isn't needed for a Batman film.

If you tell me your idea for a Spider-Man movie and start with "I'd have it be rated R" then I know right away your idea is bad and you don't understand Spider-Man. There are 4 things that'll earn an R (gore, drugs, nudity, swearing) none of which are needed for a Spider-Man story.

As an indie author, the death of twitter (even if its corpse is still being propped up, Weekend At Bernie's style) was a real blow. I haven't been able to built anywhere near the following anywhere else that I had there nor gain anywhere near the traction for self-promoting.

My experience has been: if I buy in for a sale, another sale will come along shortly after that makes me look like a sucker. If I see a sale and decide to wait and see if it ever goes lower, not only will it never go on sale again, but the MSRP will increase by 80%.

True story: when I was really young and hadn't seen The Terminator, a friend of mine explained it to me, but couldn't remember Arnold Schwarzenegger's name, and for some reason substituted Tom Cruise. So for a while in elementary school, I thought Tom Cruise was the Terminator.

presumably trying to find the 10 most valuable books he had. I had 1 hardback art book. Mike was cordial to the guy, but saw me with my 1 meaningful book and took a minute to chat. That book is still one of my most treasured pieces of memorabilia, especially after Mike passed a year later.

I saw a guy give J Scott Campbell a couple short boxes, saying he was owed because he was in line the day before when JSC had to leave for a panel. He did it, then joked his hand was sore & couldn't sign anymore. Someone said he draws for a living; Scott corrected "I draw very slowly for a living."

15-ish years ago a lot of in demand artists charged dirt cheap prices for convention commissions (like $50-100 for a head/bust) because they wanted to make fans happy, but got very frustrated seeing those sketches show up on eBay for $1500 the next day. In part, the fandom did this to themselves.
