We’ve returned to the olden days, when word-of-mouth was the only real way to advertise. As an author, if you enjoy a book, please: tell your friends. Your group chat, your sewing circle, your family WhatsApp, your work Slack, the voice channel of your MMORPG guild, anything.

Sometimes I think maybe the pandemic hasn't screwed up my sense of time all that much and then I remember "Dolemite Is My Name" came out 5 years ago.

I dunno, I guess I kind of feel like if you have to put out a series of ads assuring people that your game isn't a scam, your game is probably a fucking scam. Especially if those ads look like you filmed them in your apartment with your friends as the actors.

My experience has been: if I buy in for a sale, another sale will come along shortly after that makes me look like a sucker. If I see a sale and decide to wait and see if it ever goes lower, not only will it never go on sale again, but the MSRP will increase by 80%.

Oh, man, I thought this was someone's low-rent Reed Richards and Ben Grimm cosplay.

If you message me "Hey you" and I reply "Sorry, am I on your cloud?" and you ask me what I'm talking about, I don't think we're speaking the same language.

I like supporting small businesses and independent creators, but, man, I'm like 50/50 on buying stuff from etsy lately as to whether I'll ever get it.

True story: when I was really young and hadn't seen The Terminator, a friend of mine explained it to me, but couldn't remember Arnold Schwarzenegger's name, and for some reason substituted Tom Cruise. So for a while in elementary school, I thought Tom Cruise was the Terminator.

When I was young I imagined myself as Picard but as I've gotten older I'm definitely Picard in Tapestry.

I'm halfway through season 2 of Prodigy and I had several theories for who that reveal would be, all of which would have been much, much better (and more thematically meaningful) than the absolutely random nonsense they threw in there.

Dougray Scott.
There's a weird story behind Hugh getting the job, but it largely boils down to Russell Crowe not knowing what a wolverine is and involves lots of cut scenes from Gladiator.

I got an email from Ticketmaster that my data might have been compromised. I haven't ordered anything through them in probably 15 years, so hopefully nothing current will be out there.
Also, fuck Ticketmaster.

I might not be the biggest fan of Prodigy but the opening theme music is pretty dope.

"You dummy, why don't you just tell your crush how you feel" uh because I have near-crippling social anxiety and depression and I cannot conceive of any possible positive outcome from such a course of action but can think of lots of negatives.

Learning about the world of lightsaber replicas is wild because it's very common to see people be like "this is a really affordable lightsaber" and it's $300.

presumably trying to find the 10 most valuable books he had. I had 1 hardback art book. Mike was cordial to the guy, but saw me with my 1 meaningful book and took a minute to chat. That book is still one of my most treasured pieces of memorabilia, especially after Mike passed a year later.

One of my first cons I went to get Michael Turner's signature. This was while his health was fading. Someone came through the line and let us know there was a 10 item limit. The guy in front of me frantically pulls out a price guide and a duffle bag full of comics and starts going through,

I saw a guy give J Scott Campbell a couple short boxes, saying he was owed because he was in line the day before when JSC had to leave for a panel. He did it, then joked his hand was sore & couldn't sign anymore. Someone said he draws for a living; Scott corrected "I draw very slowly for a living."

I guess I haven't been to a con in a few years. People were still doing it for free, though many were beginning to impose limits, or do 1 for free and charge after that.

15-ish years ago a lot of in demand artists charged dirt cheap prices for convention commissions (like $50-100 for a head/bust) because they wanted to make fans happy, but got very frustrated seeing those sketches show up on eBay for $1500 the next day. In part, the fandom did this to themselves.
