Audio Engineer, Musician (Jim Slatts/Chronic Ion), Producer, host of The Jim Slatts Indie Music Hour. Rock, Synthwave, Electronic, Funk, and Alternative. Currently working with Josh Coker and John Serrano on a full length concept album - The Castillion
- I'm currently working with Josh Coker and John Serrano on a monster concept album titled The Castillion. Not even half finished, it is already the best thing I've ever worked on. We also have plans for the release of a separate medium to coincide with the album.

Hello new followers! Here's a little about myself:
I'm an audio engineer and musician that has never set foot inside an actual recording studio. Over the last ten years I have been able to perfect my sound by studying and experimenting with various sound techniques. I use Reaper for everything.

I'm very honored to have Adrenaline Fire deconstructed as a perfect piece of music. John Serrano and I are truly thankful.
This song is dedicated to all military veterans, but specifically to my grandfather who was part of the second wave on Normandy beach during WWII.

I follow back artists unless they constantly spew negativity and hate, only post links to their music, or never post any original content about themselves. There are a few other exceptions, but these are the general guidelines I follow.

Just locked down funding for an exciting new aspect to The Castillion; a second artistic medium to coincide with the album. So awesome! Stay tuned.

When I'm excited about a project, all I want to do is work on it. But if I work on it too much, ear fatigue sets in and my time and effort becomes wasted creating subpar mixes that I'll just have to correct later.
Balance is key to so many things when working on music.

Yesterday I decided to leave Only The Label and will no longer be releasing music through them. I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends, but I believe this is what is best for me and the future of my music.

Mainstream bands are struggling to sellout shows right now because people can't afford excessively high ticket prices. But you know who is doing well? Good cover and tribute bands. They are very popular in NY atm... same music at a fraction of the cost.

The Fifth Sun is the opening song for The Castillion and I wake up with it stuck in my head practically every morning, even if I haven't listened to it the day before. It's crazy because we still have more to add to it and it's only going to get better.
Fucking epic.

Free production advice is available everywhere on the internet, but in the end you have to decide what is right for your project. Not all advice applies to all situations and going your own way may prove to be the best decision. Don't be afraid to experiment with new techniques.

I was living rent free while house-sitting in Missouri when I met Josh. I moved to Arkansas solely because I saw the potential of what we were creating. That's how strong my commitment to music and art is.

We have decided that this album will not have a name. The band name is The Castillion, and that is all that is needed.

4 epic songs and counting for The Castillion. I have no idea how many tracks we'll be doing, but it will be enough to tell the story of The Castillion.
Concept.

No more playlists from me on Friday's Indie Music Hunts. Apparently some artist's labels don't like free promotion. Oh well. I have other things to work on.

Adrenaline Fire
An epic journey through the eyes of a WWII paratrooper, portrayed (and sung) by the great John Serrano.
Dedicated to my grandfather and all military veterans.

One Track has changed everything for The Castillion. Initially we were going to finish our 1st song, Django's Helmet, and release it right away. Then Josh put down a guitar riff he'd been saving for 25 years on One Track. It's so glorious and BEGS to be the album opener.

I think a lot of mainstream listeners have a negative perception about the production quality of independent music because it was pretty bad for a long time. But not anymore. We need to change that perception by presenting the best we have to offer.

The podcasts and playlists I put together are not for playing just any song. I see a bigger picture - trying to push independent music as a whole into the mainstream. To do that, I have to feature what I consider to be the best independent music out there.

There's always a sense of relief when I finish a track, but does anyone else get a slight sense of disappointment as well? Like, this thing that has consumed so much of my time over the last weeks and months is over... I'll never have the experience of working on it again.

A great mix has big sound without being overly compressed. Simply making your song louder does not make it better and often introduces unnecessary harshness to the final product. Avoid entering the noise war.

If you're a musician and don't have a Bandcamp page, why not? It's free, 85% of money from music sales goes to you (90% of merch), set your own prices, direct contact with your fans, and higher audio quality than streaming services.
It's all I use to listen to music nowadays.

They only post links to their music.
I want to know more about you personally and musically.

I still listen to my favorite mainstream artists from major labels, but it's mostly stuff from bands that formed at least 5 years ago. Everything new that I find interesting and worth listening to comes from independent artists. It's more creative and continues to push boundaries
