Something I learned for Jan starts at both a Canadian university and a private US university is that I was not eligible for a raise (neither inflation nor merit) for 20 months (ie until the following August)

I started in Jan at public US uni and while the 80% thing didn't happen, the raise thing did (plus even longer because COVID)
