Nothing like fieldwork in the Sierras and lots of #Mimulus species to feel revitalized and refreshed!

We all agree there has been an explosion of papers published, but it also seems that the expectation for number of papers cited in references has increased dramatically (so many classics with 10 or fewer references!). Anyone collected data on this?

I always write a personalized email (above the auto-generated one) and say why I'm particularly interested in a review from the person. IME, making it personal has a huge effect on success rate, and if they can't review, more likely to give suggestions.

With double-anonymous review for journals, how do you know (as a reviewer) if you have a conflict of interest? Or is that a moot point if it’s anonymous and ‘you’re not sure’ ?

Anyone know if its possible to count pollen with a plate reader spectrophotometer? 🧪 🌾 (i.e. remove pollen from anthers, suspend in liquid, get count estimate using OD)? #botany #plantscience

After filling pots. They come live and you sprinkle them on the surface of the pots. I think there are brands that you mix with water and spray on.

We have had problems with thrips and decreased seed set in Mimulus (we thought they were eating pollen). Treating with beneficial nematodes solved the problem!
