I thought there was something "off" about the first message to readers from the new writer of the New York Times politics newsletter. (A key position.) It was a kind frivolity in the prose. Seemed weird, given the stakes in this election.

The takeaway is that political campaign journalism attracts deeply weird people, who choose it for the same reason sports journalists choose to cover sports. And these deeply weird people are profoundly unsuited for our political moment.
I don’t want to hear polls, story of the days or what a diner patron thinks.
I want blockbuster investigations of the sources of money and their intentions. I want to know WHO is enabling this coup. This time.
