"NPR has retreated into panic mode, scorched by its sudden turn in national headlines and desperate to show that it is taking measures to strengthen itself, somehow... Who is NPR trying to appease? From all appearances, Republicans."

It blows my mind establishments esp media are still operating like domestic abuse victims (when they are most definitely not). Walking of eggshells. They have power. Why tf aren’t they speaking up?

NPR has been getting worse as NPR executive salaries have grown. Nonprofit news is a subset of capitalist media.

It's just an endless slog of opposition these days. Exhausting (which is the point, and easy for the side funded by motivated billionaires).

The right should have considered bipartisan reporting before they destroyed journalism with all of their clickbait reporting and tabloids for eight years.

I remember wondering if it was just me noticing that NPR was bending over backward for Republicans or if I was just overthinking it. Glad I’m not alone. I still tune in for some of the podcast and culture reporting but not so much with politics and news.

Once filled out an online "where do you get your news from" survey. Picked "Conservative talk radio" as one source, and gave my local NPR station as the station.

it's wild how journalists imagine into existence a kind of punishing superego that relentlessly harasses them and can never be appeased—driving them to try and appease it all the more. can't think of another profession that does the same kind of thing.

When people listen to NPR do they just selectively not hear the little breaks where they announce the funders of NPR? It's basically a list of conservative billionaires & then people act surprised when they tac right. NPR has sucked for a while now.

Yep. Don't listen to their news any longer. Terry Gross and Science Friday are about it for me. I wish them luck with their new demographic.
