People think politics is a grand strategy game where there's a singular party leader who can set the policies and political strategy" and that's only true for some kinds of political party. Not even a left/right thing; Sin Fein can do it, the GOP can. Fianna Fail and the Democratic Party can't.

The Democratic Party is the party of random kitchen sink dishes and stuff I stashed in a bucket upstairs; I care about many of the things contained within but they don't hang together in a coherent way. The GOP is a party of more singular causes, for good or (more often in my lifetime) ill.
