I mean, this way of thinking also assumes that "trying" something will always be better and won't, you know, blow up even worse than the thing it's replacing. If you skip the VP and pick some last-minute replacement with limited vetting there's no promise voters will like him/her more.

And then going forward you're telling Dems that anyone they nominate could be replaced in the future if the polls and vibes aren't great, which is a fantastic way to fracture your party and lose a lot of trust.

Look, I don't want a fight, but "always" is bullshit you're trying to paint me with and you know it. It's as though I said your position is that "going down with the ship" is "always" the best option. Maybe you -do- think that, but it would be wrong of me to claim it.
