Just because even one secure attachment can buffer a child against adversity doesn't mean *only one* is ideal, you know? The more the merrier. I'm very glad my kids have multiple people to lean on and always have.

Foster parenting is a unique position to be in. You HAVE to be prepared for your job to be to foster reunification or family placement. If you can't let go? You shouldn't be a foster parent.

The thing about attachment is that it IS transferable. I fostered for about 3 1/2 months from birth once and the baby went on to form a deep and secure attachment in his permanent placement with a family member. They hadn't been prepared to take him at birth, but were 3 months later.

Foster parents who get into it thinking they'll get to pick and choose which kids are adoptable are getting into it for the wrong reasons. I foster parented because I wanted to help babies learn attachment, but did NOT expect that the long term attachment would be with me.

The Draeger masks have a foam pad under the metal nosepiece to cushion it. I'm a wee bit allergic to the foam though. If you really can't tolerate metal nosepieces, I suggest checking out readimask. They are adhesive. Not the cheapest option, but I react to most tape but not this.

Sounds fake (not that it happens but that it didn't used to.) I have trouble remembering when my body actually worked.

I don't do stevia because it's natural, I do it because, *for me*, it doesn't cause some of the problems a lot of others do. My question was specifically because someone mentioned stomach upset and it can matter a lot what the stevia is packaged with for some. For others, all stevia is a problem.

I know that, but a lot of highly concentrated sweeteners get bulked up with a supposedly inert starch that can cause a lot of digestive problems for people sensitive to such things, so it's worth asking.

I get minimal to no fogging from Draeger masks, and very little in the blue duckbills Armbrust sells. Blox masks are pretty good but tighter than my big head likes. All have metal nose pieces that you shape to your face.

Armbrust is great, but also they have a reviews section on their website where they've run like, almost every mask on the planet through a review process, by which I found masks for my husband (Dr. Peri on Amazon, KF94), my eldest (Draeger 1750, Amazon) that fit and are breathable.

Curious whether it's all stevia or the stuff that's been bulked up to be spoonable like sugar. (I only use the very concentrated stevia extract, a lot of stevia comes bulked up with maltodextrin which is like... counterproductive.)

There was never going to be a group learning situation at a local level that was going to be "enough" for how voracious I was for learning. So I spent pretty much the entire time until 7th grade bored out of my mind, then decided to treat school as a game.

kinder-3rd grade I was in split grade classrooms (k-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4) and working at the higher level every year which was socially horrific and academically not even remotely close to being interesting. By 3rd grade I could read a 300 page book in an hour.

Incredible. Kids are amazing. And I can totally see that happening. If I could have ditched third grade for a library I totally would have. (the whole year, the teacher was horrifically traumatizing.)

I would have LOVED a learn-at-your-own-speed private school but they tried catholic school for 2 years instead. My dad was born Jewish and my mom was born Episcopalian and it did not go well.

My first kinder tried to bump me to 1st grade and my mom moved me to a different school so I wouldn't be in a full day at age 5 because I fell asleep the minute I got home that first day. (Keep in mind we now suspect I had ME/CFS already.)

Oh that's a whole mood. (Not the dyscalculia but they completely missed the autism and ADHD and taught me very little about managing my own specific neurodivergence while telling me I was gifted. Didn't stop me from flaming out in college or ending up on welfare for a few years.)

Oh, and building is > buying rn price-wise as the computer manufacturers are not managing to be consistent and affordable right now in comparison to parts costs. It's like lego for grownups. A few years ago, it didn't make sense to buy parts, now it doesn't make sense not to.

I've been in the thick of building computers the past few months, holler if you want any help on picking parts for a budget. (I helped with $2000, $1200, $1000 and $600 builds.) My brain is full of this stuff rn, can infodump if needed.

We used to call the Emus at Wildlife Safari "The Inspectors" who would come and peck at the windshields while looking very concerned. The ostriches would also peck at the windshields but they didn't seem too vexed about it.

Yeah covid fucked with my dysautonomia so hard but I'm doing the Zyrtec+Claritin+famotidine 2x daily thing and haven't been dangerously sick with covid either time I had it. I'm also on blood thinners and a raft of supplements and treated with antivirals every time.

The point is to keep the spine very level, so there's a second pillow under the top half of my head only.

Memory foam travel neck pillow keeps me from shoving my shoulders up to my ears when I sleep and helps awake too. Pt does very gentle traction on my head. Lidocaine patches on the back of my neck stop the vicious cycle of tension pain.

(someone in my household has a fever, the city is 3 hours away over terrible, snowy roads, and my spinal condition means that sitting for very long, even if the road was good, will cause me excruciating pain. She has three people with her who adore her and are taking turns and not leaving her side.)

My middle child, who is an adult, has had two surgeries in the past three days and it is killing me that I can't go to the city she's in and be by her side. The reasons I can't are valid and numerous, and she has people loving on her and isn't alone, but my bones are screaming to be there.

I take too many pills for those things so I switched to a compostable plastic condiment cup, I can lay out 25 of them at a go in one of my bathroom drawers and they present a bigger target for dropping the pills in.

Once a day someone in the house puts food in front of me and that usually goes pretty well except that there are some foods I nope out of hard, like non-fried whitefish. (We do fried whitefish with a chicharrone breading, which is very easy to eat.)

Also the things I have to eat are all pretty dense and foods I like very much, and I still forget to eat them. Yogurt with flax and berries is a common one for me, or salami with good cheese and an apple, for example, or nori with smoked oysters. I usually end up eating 2-3 times per day.

I'm on Victoza and it does tamp down my appetite but not my ability to see food as food and eat it. I'm already on a low carb diet for blood sugar management (my A1C is 5.8 on Victoza, topical metformin and low carb) and am not trying to lose weight but it happens anyway because I forget to eat?

We went on a couple of cruises in the 00's and loved them. I have dietary issues so having a dedicated restaurant who knew all my issues and was able to meet my dietary needs and not having to unpack at every new port was HUGE. I also really love being on a ship, it's soothing. Can't do it now.

Eh, they managed to keep the wet stuff on a tiled floor, mostly. First thing we did moving in was install better ventilation, but there were too many other projects to spend money on carpet removal then. It doesn't smell because I yell at people who put towels on the carpet.
