Those fighting Democrats can do a hell of a lot more in a majority than they can do in a minority. And we need to think of this as a long-term project. It's about transforming the party over decades, not just a couple years.

This is exactly right. You move a party by starting at the grass roots and being the most active, devoted part of the base. That’s how the freak show captured the GOP. Primary time, you drag tooth and nail where you want to go. General time, you fight even harder for your team to gain/hold power.
