My dear friend Irwin DeVries, who passed away last week, was a leader in open education. TRU Open Learning have set up a dedicated scholarship for Open Learning students in his memory with a goal of raising $25,000 this year to enable them to endow the fund in perpetuity:

I had a lot of fun writing this talk and appreciated the charge from the Board to both look back (to celebrate and learn) and to gaze forward. It has been a delight to see the growth in this community (there are more than 1750 participants, including a large number of first time attendees).
