My very favourite Canadian sovcit decision has the judge pointing out that his authority to control the procedures of his own court goes all the way back to William the Conqueror, and stick that in your Magna Carta and smoke it.

One of the problems with being a sovcit is that some judges are, in fact, total law and law history dorks and would /eagerly/ pounce upon an opportunity to predate someone who's so foolish as to volunteer for it.
