hey do you have any quick takes on this lady? skeptical of the "blue-collar" label when we were apparently at the same elite liberal arts school at the same time, but stoked to find out about that yesterday and wondering how she stacks up against the rest of the caucus.

this was not "size doesn't matter" to be clear, but "not clear this person can physically have sex".

the only guy i knew who had one was known for dressing up as a pirate every day in college, but i only knew he had one because he joined the event where we paint ourselves blue and run around naked at the end of the year, so nothing but respect.

the other tragedy, looking at exit polls, is that Bernie won pretty strongly with voters under 40 even in south carolina, but under 40 made up just 21% of the vote.

those people exist but are, like anti-bernie warren contrarians, an overrepresented in dumb social media arguments.

however, he lost the black vote to Biden even more decisively in south carolina than he lost the white vote, 61% to 17%

inevitably biden won most of the vote in all states. looking at exit polling in iowa and new hampshire, sanders won 39% of hispanics, with other groups being too small to poll, and 43% of "non-white" voters in iowa.

sure, it seems online warren supporters have grievances, but most of you are white and highly educated. but yeah, hopefully AOC picks up the torch in 2028 and we notch the win this time.

i think you must have been spending too much time on social media, that was really just a fraction of his support. it was Warren, Klobuchar, and Buttigieg who struggled to find appeal beyond educated and white voters.

I also don't think she ever even made the sale. When she was in the lead she tacked right, not left.

it would of course make more sense for the weaker candidate to "shelve their ego" for the sake of the stronger. i agree Warren could have won with a Bernie endorsement, but the reverse is also true and the onus was clearly on the weaker and more moderate candidate.

and it didn't work, but he did far better than warren, and came closer to victory than he did in 2016, so you have to admit this was a reasonable call.

there's not, but given that he tried to run a messaging campaign and then suddenly found he has more appeal than expected and was running to win, it makes sense he would try again with a plan to win from the jump.

in 2016 on the other hand, sanders only announced after a draft warren movement failed to sway her, but after his surprisingly strong go of it there, he definitely had the priority to run again (if that can be said to mean anything).

it was obvious he was going to run. they clearly should have come to some kind of formal agreement to drop out and endorse based on polling or delegates within a certain timeframe, but she knew he was going to run again when she announced, and vice-versa.

he's a journalist, a good one, who was regularly with AOC or being texted by her for many of the major political events of the last few years. If you want to know what's going on with the left-democrats, there is no better source than his last book.

Biden let the source of the biggest poverty reduction in decades expire. I am not seeing it. Really my only interest is in what outcome better sets up an insurgent campaign in 2028, and the answer is that I have no idea, so I'm staying out of it.

the accurate takes on AOC are all in Ryan Grim's latest book. She has some ideas about politics that I don't quite agree with, but nothing that isn't mostly shared by Bernie too. We don't have anyone better. You'd vote for her, no?

yeah, we'll talk them back off the ledge when it comes down to it, the same way I got most of my Warren-friendly friends to switch to Sanders in late 2019.

yes. de la Cruz is probably a better candidate, but she doesn't have ballot access so I am compromising on the more realistic choice.

yeah, there are some pretty dysfunctional people and fringe groups among the greens. Howie Hawkins in 2020 was a better candidate -- my mom and her partner were behind drafting him and running his campaign. But it is what it is. Just the only left party with wide ballot access.

I have family ties to the whole thing. My mom ran against Van Hollen in 2016. So Jill would stay at her house when campaigning in the vicinity and explained these policies to me for the first time -- though they later had a falling out over the Clinton recount thing.

as he said himself, she did win the popular vote! under a sane system that would be a win, and clearly she was fives of figures away from the real thing. you'd have to not only think Sanders is sexist and a liar to believe this, but also incredibly stupid. why even want him to court you then?

i think she pretty clearly would do better than both of them. i also vote in a blue state. i also think that whoever let it get to this being the choice should be punished. all of those are true, though only the first is relevant to my choice.

one thing it would help to understand is that sanders was operating in a hostile media environment where any admission would be read as unfavorably as possible. i recall some guy in the news worrying about being sent to camps when he won nevada. the question at the debate was "why did you lie"

i think that if Warren was willing to put both their credibility into question at a debate in a gambit to juice her fading polling, we were kind of screwed no matter what. whatever needed to happen needed to happen before it got to that point.
