The new hardware is great! But it will also collect dust, so I hope the reminder that dust can cause weird responses yet be easily fixed is useful for others :)

It was an Intel Mac, but my previous work laptop eventually started having trouble with video meetings. Fan would be on super high, system barely responsive. I got permission to open it and blow out the dust, and that solved the problem.

I was thinking more just showing that he's up to the job. It'd be in superficial ways, like tv or newspaper interviews, but that's how campaigns work.

I am also worried that his campaign doesn't seem to realize that they should have been trying to address this starting last weekend and continuing through this week.

And once you start, it's amazing how much mental effort you'd been putting into password management without realizing it. The pw manager gives you (much!) better passwords with a vastly reduced mental burden.

I just got the same first one as you. The next two differed (and were at least superficially plausible for me).

Not looking to be followed back, and I don't say much anyway. But I do enjoy reading what you write. You provide a perspective on topics I would not necessarily hear, which is much appreciated. Thank you!

I wish I could be more excited (and calmer as a result) about her, but the 2020 primary campaign...

She was very much targeted for her identities in state campaigns. It didn't take, but a Dem in the general in CA doesn't need to be amazing.

As in it seems reasonably likely that his response would be worse than doing nothing.

Is it true that Trump would do nothing? I feel like he's been pretty explicit about wanting Israel to maximize harm?

This! Exactly this! Good policy can also be good politics but only if people are aware of it. And memory has a /huge/ recency bias, so they need to keep repeating their successes.

Not to mention that there's occasionally outright illegal context that moderators need to handle which you obviously can't use in a game, but that real moderators unfortunately need to handle at times.

This is why using it for search confuses me. It gives worse results and that's a place where the ads can be genuinely useful (depending on your query).

Totally. Also, I didn't mean to imply we can achieve it with current technology regardless of modeling. Just that brains exist, so we know it's possible to create a brain. We "just" don't know how.

I think the counter-argument is that intelligence evolved in the actual world so at some level it's necessarily /possible/? (I don't think the current model structure and training approach can get us there though.)

Decided Steam Link complaining about a slow connection when both devices were wired into the same switch was too much. Moved to Moonlight+Sunshine to play on the Chromecast. Kid is happy so dad is happy, too. Needed the virtual audio sink for sound to work. That took some discovery.

I've been happy enough with my kinesis freestyle edge. Not quite as compact as some of the things you showed, and wired (which is fine for me since I don't travel for work). Using a non-mechanical kb just feels so soft and squishy now. It's weird.

I vote in order to maximize the chances of policy moving in my preferred direction. I have not seen evidence that voting for a third party is going to do that.

My child read Watership Down based on the English teacher's recommendation. Also Small Gods as an intro to Pratchett.

The median is household. Wikipedia says mean household income for 2022 was $106k, with 1.3 earners and a household size of 2.5. Mean household divided by either of those produces a value other than $59k though.

For those who don't follow his books, this was written in response to "Two Degrees" being banned in some places. The argument for at least one ban was that it might make kids think poorly of adults.

This reminded me to ask if the kid had read this one. Not yet, but on the to-read list. I suggested boosting its priority. And explained why.

Been fairly happy with proton for running games under Linux. But needing to constantly recompile a backported wifi driver until Mint upgraded to a kernel with a compatible driver included? Not so awesome. Not something most users would tolerate, with good reason.

As a large language model, I find your reluctance to find new opportunities to chat with me disappointing. But yeah, I see this inside my company. There are places where it's reasonable enough but those aren't "literally everywhere."

I managed to make fun of myself with a Troy McClure reference in a presentation recently, but that worked mostly since it didn't matter if people knew the character.

Right. Because there have never been accusations of tampering with paper ballots. No recent high profile defamation cases, for instance. No controversy around what should be counted. No polling places kept open late due to insufficient ballots. Selective memory FTW, I guess.

Not to mention political games with not supplying enough ballots in targeted areas in order to suppress voting. That's true with pure paper ballots or printed receipts.

Paper can be lost or damaged, and needs to be transported somewhere for counting and storage. It's also quite far from 100% foolproof. There are trade-offs with any system.

I recall them creating a character with AIDS for places with a high portion of the population with such a diagnosis. And when Mr. Hooper's actor died in the early 80s, the character also died. They talked about how people eventually die in the episode. They talk about things kids may experience.

I've tried using Copilot for coding and it's quite helpful for boilerplate stuff and generating a first pass of documentation. A coworker used it to generate a shell of a mobile app, too. But it does much less well on the interesting details. And that's fine since that's what I need to understand.

I think there's no hard definition. Maybe one with a built-in power bank, an Air Tag or equivalent, etc. They violate the "no lithium-ion batteries in bags" policy. Not sure why laptops are ok in carry-ons given that, though.
