I remember the BBC did a IQ test TV show, and I got a good score. “Yeah super-genius, I am!” Me trying to navigate the online holiday booking system my job has, which isn’t really complicated. “What is going on? Why is it doing this? Why does the universe hate me?” It’s a crock of shite.

This is a good start. James Timpson must have spoken to people in all levels of the prison system over the years. The Prison Service is in dire condition, and he’s well aware of it. He also runs a successful company, so knows that money is finite. He’ll try to do the most with what he’s got to spend

My mate’s parents fled South Africa for London because of apartheid. They were classified as “coloured,” and when you see the rules and charts that they had to put everyone who wasn’t white into a box, and what rank had what privileges, it very much reminds me of somewhere else.

They are the sole discretion of the Honours Committee and the PM. We would probably still have knighthoods even if we did away with the monarchy. After all France still has knights, thanks to The Legion of Honour, and they haven’t had a king since 1870.

Knighthoods tend to be earned too. They aren’t hereditary. Wether you agree an individual is worthy of it, well, that’s a whole other can of worms. Starmer earned his to rising to the rank of Director of Public Prosecutions. Of course, you can refuse them, like David Bowie did.

We had Sir George Young, the Conservative Party Chairman as our MP, then Sir Clive Soley, Labour Party Chairman. It’s funny, the wealthier Acton got, the more left wing it became. It used to be a swing constituency, but now it’s rock solid Labour.
