The payments and invoices all happened when he was in office, but hopefully it’ll be very obviously not part of his duties as president to personally sign checks from his own business.

I believe he specifically wanted a good jazz pianist for his show, despite the other adults telling him kids wouldn’t appreciate it. Yet here I am, a musician who fondly remembers all the great music from him and Sesame Street

Today I participated in online conversations and have concluded that the Poster’s Life is not the life for me. Just a lot of people who seem to have gotten their degree in “the government” from social media and cable news dot com

I do not work in your city and if you would like either of those problems to get better, you will need to be an active participant in your city’s government. Probably for several years, because the problems are actually complex and you may not yet know how to solve them.

Do you feel like your vote has had much of an effect on anything, though? Do you know what positive policies your city/town council can reasonably implement if the right people are elected? Voting is the minimum for government participation. There’s a lot more that can be done.

It’s very easy to say “government is bad” on a web site. It’s more difficult, and more important, to participate in and learn about government in order to advocate for improvement, and to consider imperfect solutions that improve life for you and your community

Maybe you mean some specific license place readers bought from private companies by various cities and townships, and you are forgetting that each of those governments are a distinct set of a couple dozen people, some of whom are good people and actually smart

Any machine from any government? Like the NYS comptroller’s pension and retirement system for public teachers? Because I’ve been in that server room and believe me you do not want to remove that automation.

Glad to see you know so much about me and can condense it down to a Simpsons meme. Absolutely do not waste a second of your life wondering if I might have thought about community safety issues and also problems with policing. I’m certainly not as smart as you.

Reduce dangerous driving for a population over a longer span of time. Not one driver on one day.

That’s a different problem than what traffic cameras are meant to solve. Traffic cameras are meant to decrease the number of cars speeding over time. It discourages the bad behavior. How would you solve the problem you described, and do traffic cameras prohibit you from solving it?

The transparency aspect all comes down to policies within the local government that signed the contract. And that can be abused, but we have to hold the local government responsible, not a generalized safety effort that could be abused by that government

Do the cops walk into work one day and get assigned to either camping in front a school zone or being on a swat team? The safety impact of speed cameras still count even if there are different (and certainly huge) problems with law enforcement

We also may be thinking of different scenarios, which is totally fine. I’m thinking about the traffic in my small upstate NY city, with 30mph speed limits and lots of pedestrians and bicycles and pets. I’d like to see more drivers who don’t see the next green light as a checkpoint to race toward

What precedent exactly, and which laws? The speed limit is already there, the traffic lights are already there. The enforcement is no longer up to a cop looking at traffic, and it’s just a fine by mail rather than a risk of escalation at a traffic stop

I don’t love it when cities think those cameras are a failure if they don’t get enough revenue from tickets, though. They should be glad that leas people are speeding!

Driving at the speed limit is actually a good thing, and it can encourage a mindset of “I don’t actually have to win an imagined race against the other traffic” which also helps against road rage

All the other segments of the chart have commuter rails too! Even if they don’t live near a train station, it’s still easier to drive to one and take a train than drive all the way into the city!

I’m definitely also not a lawyer! But the court is part of the NYS unified court system, which is part of the government, so I’m semi-assuming that there are similar policies - wifi is available but there are other security hurdles in place.

From my NY government IT perspective, attorneys lose their minds when there’s no wifi. There are also additional bits of security that I won’t get into for obvious reasons.
