more Green Hell posting. The crew I bumbled through the forest with are some of the most amazing humans I've met. For me its sometimes difficult to treat friends gracefully when the pressure is on and the stakes are high, these but friends made care seem so effortless. Hashtag squadgoals.

The whole region is peppered with checkpoints on high alert for anyone not white. Even if you play the game by all the dehumanizing rules, you can still be held up by three different Polish agencies in a parking lot because of your ethnicity. Obviously inhumane for travelers, but locals too.

Medics are the best fuckin people straight up. Green Hell has seen Swiss surgeons, French street medics, and locals who've had to rise to the challenge. Many people on the move have also been meeting their own needs, sometimes coming from medical backgrounds, sometimes learning on the fly.

The next day, a green hell local shows you some forest snacks, and on your way home you pass the fence where last night's wet boots dry. This place, and the people of this place give. so. much. The forest isn't naturally a refugee meat-grinder, the state had to work really hard to turn it into one.

The Folks you meet indicate razor wire injuries from the crossing. A red light is needed to treat the wounds, and while the rest of the group drinks the tea and trades in their soaked gear, you try to ask why they left home. Only a few recognizable words but you've heard this story before.

gotta hide in the wet bushes from border patrol, but u just navigated an hour thru swamp so it doesn't make a difference at this point. soaked is soaked. You don't risk a headlamp in these woods, it slows u down but otherwise you'd never notice the blue glow of some fungi.

Drew one of the many sweethearts I met in green hell. She rolls cigarettes for the refugees we meet in the forest. Most travelers from African regions don't smoke but she dgaf she rolls em darts anyways. That's Białowieża hospitality.

I'll try to get stories when/how I can around the glow while the medics tend to razor wire injuries or dog bites or whatever wounds these rival states have inflicted. No going home now. Went back to the Belarus/Poland border to support my crew tryna keep refugees alive on their journey w medical needs, food, clothing, phone access, cigarettes, asylum papers, whatever. Sometimes at night we'll risk a red light like a campfire that gives no heat.
