Americans mostly think that the rest of the world has immigration policies that are pretty similar to what they *think* US immigration policies are like: open to almost anyone, with special dispensation for refugees.
We haven't been that country ... maybe ever, but we think we're the norm.
I’ve always banked on immigration policies elsewhere to be as harsh as our right wing politicians want it to be.
Plus not knowing a language other than English isn’t a great place to be either (that’s me, I only know English, curse you idiot school system).
When I see Americans say “if ___ happens I’m moving to Canada” my first thought is “good fucking luck”
You wouldn’t think so from how people here complain about south Asian immigrants, but there are very few paths to immigration in Canada, and “I don’t want to live in America” isn’t one of them.
Any American that’s not wealthy, doesn’t work a very specialized/in-demand job, or doesn’t have family in another country should not waste time on trying to emigrate. I know it’s scary, but it’s time to stand and fight. The situations not really better most places anyway (thanks to us)
