Since we're sharing, I have a soft spot for my 1837 "hard-times token"—or, as one coin-collecting site calls them, "the original meme." Minted privately during a depression, they convey a happy mix of humor and spite. The tortoise is the US economy, the jackass Andrew Jackson.
