"are all popular furries problematic" --> no. the more popular a furry gets, the more gen-z furries invade their personal lives and perform their impossible purity tests

the part that I laugh at is, if these people put themselves under the same "purity" tests theyd fail instantly.

Gen-Z busybody invading a space they just started engaging with two days ago: I can't believe y'all like X Person, didn't you hear they called me annoying? Because I'm Y?! I am going to spend my days and nights obsessing over them.

imo this has always been a problem, but social hierarchies are increasingly rigid thanks to the immediacy of modern social media. i think a lot of kids just see this behavior as something they're supposed to do.

My "purity tests" are pretty tame IMO, (then again I'm not gen-z I'm a 90's kid, "millenial" by technicality only) 1. Respect consent. 2. Don't be transphobic. It's that simple, and yet I've already had to cut 2 people out of my life for violating that 2nd one.

I really dislike the narrative that it is young people doing this Most of the people I see engaged in this harassment are Millennials often elder Millennials even it feels like a stereotype about young adults that began with Millennial Tumblrites a decade ago & is being projected onto youth today

So far I haven't been attacked all that much past furry haters shouting "Furry" in the comments. I've had the occasional creepy DM's that cause me to say NOPE and slink away from. I do avoid all the callout sort of content and stick to being a dork with after effects.

I've found it depends on who you surround yourself with. As always, Furry fandom is what you make of it.

It's weird to me as someone who has been in the fandom for over a decade online. Back then furry drama was way more concentrated cuz the overall online presence of us was small, now it's massive and mainstream so these days I don't really hear much unless it involves friends and acquaintances.

Tru also richer furries are more likely to be popular cause they can afford fursuits and time to make content

I have noticed this with artists being nitpicked for what people they draw for as if that's some indication of their own personal beliefs. Artists shouldn't be held accountable for who they do work for because more often than not, the artists has no clue who they're working with.

This happened way back when, when the fandom was smaller too x.x I had a brief bout of popufurdom back in the late 90s/early aughts and boy do people put you on a pedestal and then whack you off HARD if you deviate from their perception of you. I do NOT miss it.

Also, I've said it before, the community uses drama as entertainment, and everyone feels the need to pry and splay people's lives all over the Internet. This makes finding any sort of actual fact or reason impossible. Some things are better dealt with in private

You get a lil traction and you are subjected to various purity tests against your will, although the same people who try very hard to judge you probably fail a lot of those tests too loll, I gotta say while there are issues worth calling out but sometimes ppl need to chill tf out

They need to touch grass. And also just get rid of their X/toxic social media There's other things one could do for their lives, and for the people around them that they care about or whatever. Develop new skills, etc. But they are wasting the limited time they have on this Earth on such BS

Every human being is problematic if you dig hard enough. Even trying to purge "problematic" people is problematic, since you are probably incapable of thinking rationally and instead rely on emotion and knee-jerk responses. That's how you get crusades, hate crimes and finally - fascism.
