heads i win, tails you lose: trump and RFK jr’s supporters both already know they believe insane conspiracies, so there’s no need to discuss what believing insane conspiracies says about their mental fitness to lead, but biden voters can be persuaded that biden may be unfit, therefore, biden old

there are only three kinds of american voter who you’re allowed to write about/to: 1. democratic voters who hate the nominee 2. independent/swing voters who represent the ideal american voter and who have no strong pre-existing ideological preferences 3. republicans who cannot be persuaded

If this isn't making you ask "so, what's the elite media trying to do other than just get clicks" I don't know what to tell you that will open your eyes. At least my own days of being 100% certain that "assume stupidity or ignorance instead of malice" is a good idea are behind me. Now I flip a coin.

Any outlet that doesn’t cover this story is making a choice to ignore it, and we should be asking why.

anyway, i don’t know what biden should do about the campaign. no one else does, either. but there’s not been enough discussion about whether powering through, bad press be damned, could also work, even though that has worked for him many, many times in his long political career.

his career has been defined by saying something that would normally doom another politician and then just slamming the gas and leaving it in the rearview, rather than getting personally bogged down in it, which is a trait he funnily enough shares with the younger progressive dems.

Trump is trying to get ahead of the reality that he and the heritage foundation are working to destroy America and institute a fascist dictatorship. He is lying and expecting the media to gaslight America for him.

abigail disney’s staggering hypocrisy here is one of the many ways in which you get reminded that even when astronomically wealthy people pay lip service to equality and progressive politics, they understand that the rules they themselves agree with in theory will not be applicable to them

the bitterly funny part about the heiress calling her friends at elite publications to demand she be given a privileged say in who a political party selects as a nominee is that it’s the exact kind of thing that heiress would rightly recognize as morally abominable if she saw one of her peers do it

i don’t think that’s necessarily true of disney herself, but i think abigail disney believes, as all obscenely wealthy people do, that her wealth and privilege provide her with special insights and power that entitle her to speak for the people in a first amongst equals capacity

this is a poster’s instinct, not a politician’s, but it would be extremely funny if biden shot back at big dem donors by saying that they are just afraid he’s going to increase their taxes (and i think for a subset of them, this is genuinely true)

I think we need to introduce leopards to Washington DC. Seems to be working great where you live. I want to see my country get in on that! ... actually, maybe we could just use panthers instead. No worries about invasive species that way!

That's because of another thing I've noticed. Every time I hold my tongue to "be nice" or "polite", something bad happens to me or someone I care about. Every. Single. Time. So I just don't do that, ever. I worry about anger later, and do something about whatever problem I'm having right now.

I frequently don't say things in the most gentle manner, and that's why I keep getting called "abrasive". But that's the thing. If a spade's a spade, I'm gonna call it such. And if something is a bad thing for me, I'm gonna say it, no matter if it's "proper" or "polite" to do so or not.

To make it clear, my default stance is "Be as honest as possible, including saying "I can't answer your question" if I don't have enough data to answer it". Lots of people say that being able to say "I don't know" is a character flaw. It's actually a strength.

And besides, "carry" isn't a thing that's gonna happen here in NY state (getting a CCW permit here without being an LEO is about as frequent as a confirmed sighting of a unicorn). It'll purely be an "at home gun" that I take to the range to keep my aim good.

Just noticed a trend in my life. Most people that brand me "abrasive" or "confrontational" are the people that aren't interested in being honest. The exact kind of people that I don't want to deal with!

Right, so thoughts on which pistol to get then? Thinking about an M&P Shield in 9mm, as a starting point.

No matter what firearm I might have to open fire with, I was never going to be doing something so stupid as aiming for the knees or anything like that. Nope. If it's a pistol or rifle, 2 in the chest, one in the head.

Good point, plus .44mag probably hurts to shoot even out of a full size revolver (and you can say goodbye to your eardrums if you fire it indoors with no earpro). So what other than an AR-15 would you say I should use, since you keep shooting down my ideas?

Didn't exactly want to have to buy a new gun JUST for home defense, and there's not much they'll let you hunt with 5.56 Nato/.223Rem here in NY. I'd have to get an AR-10 (or similar) instead of the -15 if I wanted something with deniability.

I don't like the idea of killing, but if that's what it comes to, I will not hesitate to pull the trigger. Cops won't get here fast enough, I know that much.

I'm a light sleeper, all the doors that lead indoors squeak loud enough to raise the dead because I intentionally don't oil them, and I'm not RELYING on racking the shotgun to scare them off. Like you said, that's fuddlore. If that doesn't do it, I'm already lining up the shot on them within <3s.

SciNrd's avatar SciNrd @scinrd.bsky.social

I can still get a .44 magnum, because that's a "revolver" and "what could someone possibly do that's bad with a revolver, after all our NYC cops used them for the longest time"

SciNrd's avatar SciNrd @scinrd.bsky.social

Plus, all I gotta do to it to make it into a more tactical shotgun is take the magazine limiting wooden dowel out of it. Can't hunt deer with it that way, but more mag size is never a bad thing.

SciNrd's avatar SciNrd @scinrd.bsky.social

But the reason I pick the shotgun first is because that iconic sound of racking a shotgun is usually enough to send would-be malcontents running, which saves on ammo and paperwork for all involved.

Not a good idea in NY. I'd be better off with a Mini-14, since I can get that with a wood stock and in NY the wood stock is basically a free pass for "yeah there's nothing wrong with this gun" sorta kinda.

Not saying I want them dead, just gone from earth politics. That one kid from The Twilight Zone that could "send people to the cornfield" which was actually another dimension disconnected from reality had the right idea after all, as much as it was spun as "oh what a terrible thing" in the episode.

I just had a fantastic idea. I know Elon's working on a moon rocket. And I know it is eventually gonna have up to 100 seats. You know what I think that would be good for? Putting Trump, SCOTUS, and pretty much anyone who thinks they're better than the rest of us on the moon, oxygen supply optional.
